Installation cost barely varies by brand. Bob Vila's figures put brand-specific installs — across manufacturers including Bosch, ChargePoint, Enphase, JuiceBox, Siemens, Tesla and Webasto — in a $1,000 to $1,600 band for materials and labor. So the brand decision is about the hardware and the support, not the electrician's bill.

Safety certification is the first filter, not a tiebreaker. ENERGY STAR is blunt that not all EV chargers for sale are safety certified, including some sold through large online and storefront retailers, and recommends choosing equipment tested by a nationally recognized testing laboratory. ENERGY STAR also maintains certified product lists for AC-output and DC-output models.

Then match the specs. Output amperage should suit both your car's onboard AC limit and your panel capacity — AFDC describes residential Level 2 as commonly up to 30 amps delivering 7.2 kW, with the class spanning about 7.2 to 19.2 kW. Connector type should match your vehicle. Hardwired versus plug-in capability should match your install plan.

Warranty: read the document. Terms differ by model and sometimes by whether the unit was professionally installed. Download the manufacturer's warranty for the exact model number you're buying. Do not rely on a retailer's summary or an installer's verbal assurance, and be careful with grey-market units bought through marketplaces, where warranty support is often the first thing to disappear.

Don't overweight brand on install price

Brand-specific installs cluster at $1,000–$1,600. If one brand's installer quotes far outside that, ask what's different about the scope.
