Buying a door. Decide material and insulation first, since those set the price band, then style and windows. Measure the rough opening width and height, headroom above the opening, and side room, because those constrain which track and opener types will fit. Professional installation of a standard door takes about three to four hours.

Maintaining a door. Monthly: run the contact-reverse and photo-eye tests, look and listen while the door cycles, wipe the sensor lenses, and check the door for anything obviously loose or frayed. Annually: DASMA recommends a visit from a trained door systems technician.

Troubleshooting. Before calling, check the obvious: is the opener getting power, is the emergency release cord disengaged, are the photo eyes clean and aligned, is anything in the door's path, and does the door move smoothly by hand. These four checks resolve a meaningful share of calls.

What is not in any guide here. Winding, unwinding, adjusting, or replacing springs, and removing bottom brackets or cables. These are the injury cases in this trade and DASMA's position is unambiguous: spring systems should be repaired only by trained professionals.
