We do not publish brand rankings, and you should be skeptical of sites that do without disclosing how they're paid. What we can say is what actually varies: how easy it is to get parts locally, how many contractors near you are trained on that line, and what the manufacturer's own written warranty says.

One practical filter: ask whether the proposed indoor and outdoor units are an AHRI-matched pair. Efficiency ratings apply to matched systems. Mixing a new outdoor unit with an old indoor coil can quietly cost you the performance you're paying for.

Warranty terms differ by manufacturer, by product line and sometimes by whether you registered the equipment within a set window after installation. Do not take a salesperson's summary. Read the warranty document on the manufacturer's website before you sign, and ask in writing who is responsible for labor — parts and labor are usually covered differently.

Terms vary by line and often require registration within a set period after installation. Confirm labor coverage separately from parts coverage.

Ask about local parts availability

A brand with no nearby distributor means longer waits when something fails in July. Ask the contractor where they source parts and how fast.

Confirm the AHRI match reference

It should appear on the proposal. If it doesn't, ask for it — it's how the rated efficiency is verified.

Ignore 'dealer of the year' badges

These are marketing programs, not independent quality assessments. State license status, insurance, and references from jobs in your area tell you more.
