Where they are unreliable: anything jurisdiction-specific, anything about current tax credits and rebates, and anything requiring a look at your actual building assembly. Rules change and models go stale. Verify any incentive claim on IRS.gov or your utility's site, and any permit question with your building department.

Use one before the sales visit, not instead of it. Walking into a contractor conversation knowing your climate zone, your current attic depth, your target R-value and the normal price range changes the entire dynamic. That is the real value.

One caution worth stating plainly: an AI cannot tell you whether it is safe to convert your attic to an unvented assembly with spray foam.
