Full services directory How it worksFor prosAbout Get matched Call (866) 582-8523A stair lift calculator is useful for two things: telling you whether you are in the straight-rail band ($2,000-$8,000) or the curved band ($8,000-$20,000), and working out whether renting at $150-$500 a month beats buying for your expected duration. It cannot price a curved rail, because that requires a physical survey.
The buy-versus-rent calculation is the one worth doing properly, and it is simple arithmetic. Take the monthly rental, multiply by the number of months you realistically need it, then add the deposit of $500-$1,000 and the install and removal fees of $800-$1,200, per Fixr. Compare that to a purchase in the straight or curved band. Most people find the crossover arrives sooner than they assumed.
The straight-versus-curved selector is really one question: does your staircase have any turn, bend or landing. If yes, you are in the curved band and no online tool can narrow it further, because the price depends on the rail your specific staircase requires.
Cost calculators are useful as a sanity check against a quote - Fixr's national average installed cost is about $4,000 with a $3,000-$5,000 typical range, against Bob Vila's $6,000 average across a $2,000-$20,000 range. A quote well outside those bands is a question to ask, not automatically a problem.
Financing calculators deserve care. Enter the total cash price, not the financed price, and compare the total repaid against the cash price. That difference is what the financing costs you, and it is frequently not presented as an interest rate.
That is worth something only while you are still choosing. Tell us what is going on and we will match you with a few stair lifts pros whose licence and insurance we have already checked — free, no obligation.
