Compare brands on three things you can verify: which NSF/ANSI standard and claim the specific model carries, whether replacement consumables are standard or proprietary, and the total installed cash price. If a quote is far above published installed ranges, ask specifically what the extra buys - a longer warranty and local service is a legitimate answer, "proprietary media" usually isn't.
Whatever brand you're considering, price the same certified specification through a local licensed plumber as a control. If the branded quote is triple the plumber's number for equivalent certified performance, you now know exactly what you're paying for and can decide whether you want it.
