Full services directory How it worksFor prosAbout Get matched Call (866) 582-8523Boxes on walls are not enough. Appliances, sink plumbing, hood ducting and countertop timing have to agree or the prettiest run still fails on day one. We match you with installers who sequence the whole room.
Kitchen cabinet installation is the placement of a full cooking-room cabinet package so that appliances, sink, ventilation and countertops all land on the openings and heights the layout promised. The hang itself often takes two to four days once boxes are on site; the project takes longer because fabricators, plumbers and appliance setters have to hit the same sequence. A kitchen fails less often from a crooked door than from a dishwasher opening that was never checked against the actual machine.

Lock appliances and sink before the cabinet order
Model numbers drive opening widths, panel thicknesses, water line positions and hood CFM. Kitchen cabinetry is built around equipment; equipment is not adapted to leftover holes.
Watch for: “We will pick the fridge later.” Counter-depth versus standard depth alone can ruin a flanking cabinet plan.
Plan work zones, not just elevations
Prep, cook, clean and store zones need landing space and door swings that do not collide. Installers hang what is ordered; zone mistakes are design mistakes found when someone first unloads groceries.
Watch for: Pretty elevations that never checked a 36-inch fridge door against an island stool overhang.
Utility rough-in confirmation
Water, drain, gas, electrical and hood duct locations are verified against the cabinet plan while walls are open or before bases land. Moves after boxes are in are the expensive kind.
Watch for: A sink base ordered for a centre drain when the stack is offset six inches. The cabinet is not wrong — the coordination was.
Demolition and substrate ready for a kitchen
Old boxes out, floors protected or finished to the agreed plane, blocking added for rails and hoods, and any island floor box completed. Kitchens have more services in the floor and wall than bath vanities ever do.
Watch for: Flooring decisions still open. Whether flooring runs under bases changes height, dishwasher fit and future replacement.
Hang wall and base runs to kitchen datums
Level line from the high point of the floor, wall cabinets at the agreed height above finished counter, bases unified for a continuous countertop plane, tall ovens and pantries set plumb so appliance panels read as architecture.
Watch for: Wall cabinets hung before the range hood’s duct centreline is proven. A hood that misses the duct is a carpentry problem and a ventilation problem.
Countertop template only on finished bases
Fabricators template when bases are in final position, level, and joined. Seam placement, sink cut-outs and overhangs depend on that frozen geometry.
Watch for: Templating while bases are still being shimmed. You inherit every error in stone.
Set appliances, connect trades, final adjustments
Dishwasher panels, fridge panels, range and hood go in with the trades that own gas and electrical. Doors and drawers get final reveals after tops and appliances add weight and after the room’s humidity shifts.
Watch for: Cabinet installer finished before appliance delivery with no return visit booked. Panel gaps and hinge strain show up after the heavy pieces land.
Kitchen cabinet installation pricing tracks box tier, kitchen size and how many other trades must coordinate on site. Labour for hang-only differs sharply from a package that includes layout and trade scheduling. See the cabinets cost guide for full-kitchen ranges.

Everyone else ranking for this is paid when you say yes. Here's when you shouldn't.
Will you coordinate openings against our exact appliance model numbers?
Kitchen-specific risk. Generic “standard fridge opening” language is a red flag.
Who schedules the countertop template relative to your hang?
The handoff that makes or breaks stone tops. Someone must own the calendar.
How do you handle the range hood — cabinet support, duct alignment, power?
Hoods fail at the intersection of carpentry and mechanical work. Ask who is accountable.
Is island seating overhang, power and knee clearance in the drawing?
Islands are where kitchens get unsafe or unusable if only the box plan was drawn.
What return visits are included after appliances set?
Final reveals and panel alignment need a second look. Include it in writing.
Who pulls permits if gas or electrical relocates?
Kitchen layout changes often trigger permits even when “just cabinets” was the sales language.
