What is spa & hot tub installation?

There are two different products here. An attached spa is built as part of the pool - a raised or flush vessel sharing the pool's structure, plumbing and often its heater, with valves that switch circulation between the two and frequently a spillover back into the pool. It is designed and priced at pool design stage and it is genuinely difficult to add later. A self-contained hot tub is an appliance that sits on a prepared pad with its own heater, pump and controls. If you are not building or remodeling a pool, the hot tub is almost always the right answer - and it has its own dedicated section of this site.

How spa & hot tub installation actually works

   Decide attached spa versus self-contained tub before drawings freeze

   An attached spa is a pool structure decision. Once steel, plumbing and elevations are set, adding one later means remodel economics. A freestanding tub can still be sited on a pad without rewriting the pool shell.

   Watch forA "we can add a spa later" promise with no line item in the current contract. Later usually means never, or means opening finished work.

   Set elevations, spillover and shared equipment intent on paper

   Raised versus flush, spillover edge, bench geometry and whether the spa shares the pool heater or gets dedicated heat drive valves, actuators and pad layout.

   Watch forPretty renderings without a valve diagram. Heat-up time and independence of temperature are plumbing decisions, not tile choices.

   Build the vessel with the pool shell and waterproofing sequence

   Gunite or other shell work, plumbing penetrations, tile and coping at the spa edge happen inside the pool construction sequence - not as a furniture delivery day.

   Watch forTreating the spa as an afterthought finish item. Structure and plumbing must be right before waterproofing closes.

   Commission valves, heat path and cover practice

   At start-up the builder should demonstrate how long the spa takes to reach temperature, how isolation works for service, and how the cover is used daily.

   Watch forNo cover plan. An open attached spa loses heat aggressively compared with an insulated freestanding cabinet.

What does spa & hot tub installation cost?

An attached spa is priced as pool construction - shell, plumbing, finishes and shared equipment - not as a portable appliance. A self-contained hot tub on a pad is usually the cheaper path when no pool work is planned. Compare those as different products, not the same line item.
