Full services directory How it worksFor prosAbout Get matched Call (866) 582-8523Read the warranty document itself, not the brochure. The four things that matter are what is covered (usually the installed components, not the whole house), what voids it, whether it transfers to a future owner, and who honors it if the contractor goes out of business. Never rely on a verbal summary of terms.
Warranty terms in this trade vary enormously between companies and products, and we will not summarize any specific brand's terms here because they change and are frequently misdescribed by salespeople. What we can tell you is what to look for.
Scope. Most warranties cover the components installed and their performance, not every future crack in your house. A pier warranty typically does not promise your drywall will never crack again. Ask what specifically is promised.
Voiding. Common triggers include additional work by others, changes to drainage or landscaping, and unaddressed water intrusion. Ask for the list in writing and make sure you can live with it.
Transfer. A warranty that transfers to a buyer is worth substantially more at resale than one that doesn't. Ask whether transfer is automatic, requires a fee, or requires an inspection. Backing. A warranty is only as good as the company behind it. Ask how long they have operated locally and whether any third party backs the warranty if they close.
