  1. Confirm controller compatibility and terminal type

    Most modern controllers have sensor terminals; some older units need a different interrupt method. Wireless kits need a receiver at the controller location with power and signal path. Explain what rain sensors do not do so expectations match the physics.

    Watch for: No functional test. Many “installed” sensors never interrupted a single cycle.

  5. Document bypass behaviour for the homeowner

    You should know how to temporarily bypass for maintenance and how to tell if the sensor is stuck wet or stuck dry. Stuck devices create either deserts or permanent off states. Mount where rain actually hits and where trees do not permanently shelter the collector.
