Full services directory How it worksFor prosAbout Get matched Call (866) 582-8523Most skylight projects sit in a price range people can handle without long-term borrowing — Fixr's typical range is $1,080–$1,966, with the national average around $1,523 — so financing usually only comes up when skylights are bundled into a whole roof replacement. When it does, shop the loan and the contractor separately. Contractor-arranged financing can be genuinely competitive or expensive, and you can only tell by comparing the APR and total repayment against your bank or credit union.
The tell of a bad deal is a salesperson who talks in monthly payments. A monthly figure hides the price, the rate and the term all at once. Ask for the cash price, the APR, the term, and the total of all payments. If any of those four is hard to get in writing, that answers your question.
Watch for dealer fees rolled into the price. "Zero percent" financing is often paid for by a higher project price, so compare the financed price against the cash price for identical scope. If they're the same, the promotion is real; if the cash price is lower, you're paying interest with a different name on it.
Deferred-interest offers deserve particular care. If the balance isn't cleared within the promotional window, some products charge interest retroactively from day one. Read what happens at the end of the promo period before signing.
Payment schedule is separate from financing and matters just as much. A modest deposit with the balance on completion is normal. Paying most of the cost before materials arrive is not, and it removes your only leverage if the work stalls.
