Full services directory How it worksFor prosAbout Get matched Call (866) 582-8523You get two separate warranties on a flooring job: the manufacturer's product warranty, which on vinyl plank commonly runs 5 to 20 years depending on brand, and the installer's workmanship warranty, which is whatever your contract says and is often much shorter. Moisture damage, improper subfloor prep and unapproved cleaning products are the exclusions that end most claims.
Know which warranty covers which failure. A plank that delaminates is a product issue. A floor that peaks because no expansion gap was left is a workmanship issue. Manufacturers and installers each point at the other, which is why you want both warranties in writing before the job starts.
Vinyl plank warranties run roughly 5 to 20 years by brand, and length is the least important part of the document. What matters is the exclusion list, whether coverage is pro-rated, whether labor is covered or only material, and whether the warranty requires an approved installer and approved maintenance products.
We deliberately do not summarize any specific manufacturer's warranty terms here. They change by product line and by year, and a paraphrase is worthless in a claim. Ask for the PDF for your exact product and keep it with your receipt and your box labels.
Documentation wins claims. Keep the invoice, the product and dye lot from the box label, the installer's contract, any subfloor moisture readings taken before installation, and dated photos of the failure. Manufacturers routinely ask for moisture readings — homeowners who never got them usually lose.
