The technician walks the boundary and identifies the zones that actually hold ticks: the leaf-litter band where lawn meets woods, ground cover beds, tall grass along fences, stone walls, woodpiles and shaded ornamental plantings.

Watch for: A proposal to treat the whole lawn. Open sunlit turf is poor tick habitat, and broadcasting product across it is both less effective and more exposure than the job needs.

You have a health question rather than a yard question. If you have been bitten or are worried about illness, that is a conversation for a doctor or your local public-health authority — not for a pest control company, and not for this page. Yard treatment is about reducing exposure on your property, and it is not a medical intervention.
You have an open, sunny, mown lot with no wooded boundary. That is genuinely poor tick habitat. Before buying a programme, ask the inspector to show you where on your property they believe ticks are actually being encountered.
You are picking ticks up somewhere else. Hiking trails, a job site, a horse paddock, a relative's property, or a dog walked in a park. Treating your yard does nothing about exposure that happens off it.

Open, mown, sunny lawn dries out and is poor habitat. This is why a competent programme treats a boundary rather than an acreage, and why the single most useful thing you can do is clear and widen that transition zone.

Will yard treatment stop my dog bringing ticks in?

It reduces what is present in your yard, which helps. It does not protect the animal, and it does nothing about ticks picked up on a walk, at a park, or on someone else's land. Protection for the animal itself is a veterinary question — ask your vet about a preventive, and keep checking the dog after it has been outside regardless of what you spray.

Does tick treatment reduce disease risk?

We will not put a number on that, and you should be sceptical of anyone who does. What a yard programme can honestly claim is a reduction in the tick population present in the treated zones of your property. Anything about illness, transmission or what to do after a bite belongs with a doctor or your local public-health authority, who have the current guidance for your area.

How many treatments does a season need?
