Window companies sell four different things: insert (pocket) replacement, full-frame replacement, glass-only or sash repair, and new-construction installation. Most homeowners who call about "new windows" need either an insert replacement or, if the frame and sill are rotted, a full-frame replacement. Glass-only repair is far cheaper and is the right answer when the frame is sound and only the sealed glass unit has failed.
Installed replacement windows typically cost about $300 to $2,500 per window in 2026, with common mid-range jobs landing near $700 to $1,200 per window (NerdWallet, Angi). A whole-house project of around 25 windows averages roughly $18,000 to $20,000 (NerdWallet). Frame material, window style, glass package, and whether the job is an insert or full-frame replacement move the number more than brand does.
