EV charger relocation means decommissioning a charger at one location and reinstalling it — or a replacement — at another with a proper circuit path, mount and inspection as required. Build the new location to current standards
New mount, proper support, correct terminations, GFCI/breaker requirements as applicable, and current settings matched to the circuit. Relocation is not an excuse to skip permitting when the branch changes.
Watch for: “We are only moving it a few feet” used to justify unpermitted alterations of a 240-volt circuit.
Commission and retire the old site
Test charge at the new spot, confirm cable management, close permits, and finish wall repairs at the abandoned location so the job looks intentional.
Watch for: A perfect new install beside a dangerous half-dead old outlet. Both ends of the job count.
